Graphic Novel

Updated: Nov 19

With a strive to explore how long I can commit to an art project, I challenged myself to create a graphic novel in the busiest time up until that point of my life -- 1st semester of high school senior year. I worked as my own author, illustrator, and publisher. With Kindle Direct Publishing, I was able to make this book come to life on Amazon: https://shorturl.at/Yq3hL.

I wanted to base this project on something I feel deeply for. With a complex background of living in Hong Kong, then Taiwan, while also going to America every summer, I struggled to balance my identities. Although I could speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and English quite well, I always had an accent. I first got called out for having this accent in Taiwan when I was doing my nails at a salon, and since then, I haven't stopped thinking about my accent and what other aspects make me seem "not fully Asian" but also "not fully American".

Confidently, I feel as though many people feel this same way. Not only do I hope readers find this book comforting, but also inspirational to stick to their true selves rather than letting others' opinions affect their self-image.
